Should I Give My Lashes a Break From Eyelash Extensions?

Breaks are not necessary when the eyelash application is done properly. Meaning, there should only be one extension applied to each individual natural eyelash, not one extension attached to two or more of your natural eyelashes. When this occurs, your eyelash extensions will not feel comfortable as they should and you will experience a pinching feeling in that area or across your lash line. Another sign of your eyelash extensions not being applied properly is if they are leaning and you are unable to straighten them out when brushing, you may even feel a bit of a tug when brushing your lashes. These are signs of an improper application and possible lash damage. Unfortunately damage can cause permanent lash loss to your natural eyelashes if your natural eyelash has been continually pulled from the same lash follicle. Your eyelash extension should feel seamless as if they’re not even there.

Another form of lash damage is getting eyelash extensions that are too long or heavy for your natural lashes. Yes length may look good, but it is not for every eyelash type. Wearing extensions that are too long or heavy for your natural eyelash can cause the growth to be stunted causing your eyelashes to not grow as long or as full as they usually would.

Your lash extensions should never be the cause of you needing to remove them. If so then your lash tech is not doing a great job in their eyelash application process. Therefore I ask that you please listen when a great lash professional recommends you going shorter or lighter and please don’t be mad if your asking for longer length is graciously denied, it’s only for the benefit of your natural lashes so they able to continue to grow as usual and thrive as if they did not have anything on them.

When should you remove eyelash extensions? Aside from the mentioned above cause of lash damage which can be avoided by going to a great lash professional that practices the proper application process.

Lash Extensions should be removed and should be suggested when:

- You have a unhealthy lash line due to poor aftercare. This can result in inflammation due to blocked follicles.

- If you have signs of Blepharitis or Demodex

- You have a unhealthy lash line due to poor aftercare. This can result in inflammation due to blocked follicles.

- If you have signs of Blepharitis or Demodex folliculorum (lash mites)

- You have some other eye condition such as a Stye, pink eyes etc.

- You are going through hormonal changes or stress that is causing your natural lashes to shed.

In any of these cases once your lashes are removed you should seek your health professional or an Ophthalmologis to get immediate care.

Cheap lashes are not always best. You not only pay for what you get you also are paying for the lack of knowledge in the lash industry. You only have one set of eyes. (lash mites)
